Goldenrod

04.30.19- Meredith Liggio

Goldenrod Essential Oil, native to Canada, Mexico, and the USA, is steam distilled from the flowers, leaves, and stems. Since it is a seasonal oil, Goldenrod is not always available; therefore, don’t waste any time purchasing this dynamic essential oil when it becomes available.

Historically, Goldenrod has been used to treat bacterial inflammation and as a tonic for the kidney. There is evidence that Native Americans soothed a toothache and sore throats by chewing on its leaves and roots.

Goldenrod can be used to treat conditions such as acne and eczema; however, make sure to dilute it with coconut or sweet almond oil before applying to the skin. It is also said to clean and tighten skin due to its antiseptic and astringent properties.

According to the University of Montreal, Canada, Goldenrod shows great potential in dealing with impotence. In addition, the research of Franchomme (1990) suggests that Goldenrod (faltrank) supports the circulatory system including cardiovascular problems (like tachycardia and arrhythmia), the urinary tract, and liver function.

Goldenrod can be applied to Vita Flex Points or directly on the area of concern. Young Living literature suggests that it can be used as a dietary supplement, when diluted with with 4 oz. of liquid. Goldenrod creates a calming and relaxing environment when diffused.

Here’s a springtime diffuser recipe to try. Let’s call it “Happy Day!”

  • Tangerine – 4 drops
  • Clary Sage – 2 drops
  • Goldenrod – 2 drops
