Lemongrass

lemongrass

Steam distilled from the leaves, Lemongrass has a powerful, citrus smell with earthy undertones. Young Living’s Lemongrass Essential Oil is powerful and remarkably therapeutic. It has properties of analgesic, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, insect repellent, revitalizer, sedative, tonic, and vasodilator.

My first use for Lemongrass was in the laundry room where I put drops of it on my woolen dryer balls. My clothes came out with a clean, lemony aroma, and I still use this scent.

The next time I reached for Lemongrass was as an insect repellent.  Last October, as I was handing out Halloween candy and talking to my neighbors, something began biting me on my feet.  I walked back to my condo and grabbed the Lemongrass,  as I had just read that it helped to keep the bugs away.  I rubbed a few drops on my feet and arms and shared it with a neighbor. At the end of the evening my neighbor said, “you need to tell me about your oils, I never felt another bite!”

Lemongrass is reported to keep body systems balanced and our immune systems strong. It is refreshing, relaxing, and balancing. Use it in your diffuser, place a drop on your pillow, or simply inhale from the bottle.  Lemongrass mixes well with lavender or basil.

When your muscles and tendons tighten up, Lemongrass can ease the pain.  It is said to also help improve blood circulation and provide pain relief by soothing muscle spasms. I tried this out, mixing Lemongrass with Young Living’s V-6 Oil and felt a warmth spread all over my back, a definitely WOW feeling!   Not sure if it worked on my inflammation, but I definitely began to feel better.

The citral and limonene content in Lemongrass is said to stifle the growth of bacteria and fungi (ringworm, athlete’s foot).  Combine a few drops of Lemongrass with a carrier oil and rub it on the affected area several times a day.

Lemongrass has long been used as a detoxify as it is a natural diuretic and can help reduce bloating.

When taken orally, it is said that Lemongrass Vitality can allow the body to maintain healthy levels of triglycerides and possibly reduce bad cholesterol.

If you suffer from vertigo or sluggishness, you might want to give Lemongrass at try.  It is said to stimulate and strengthen the nervous system.

The most remarkable thing about all of these uses for Lemongrass is that there are no chemicals involved. Lemongrass is just one more plant-based product that is working and helping  to replace the harmful chemicals in our lives.

As an added note, don’t forget to dilute Lemongrass with a carrier oils such as V-6, almond oil, coconut oil, or olive. oil, especially if you have sensitive skin.

Overall, what is it good for?
